2002 Cook Islands 10oz Silver Proof $10 - Battle of the Coral Sea

Every so often, we come across coins that just stand out from the crowd.  This example is one such coin.

The 2002 Cook Islands Silver Proof $10 coin, was produced by the Perth Mint under the authority of the Government of the Cook Islands, to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the battle of the Coral Sea between the combined forces of Australia and the USA, against Japan.

Although we are not great admirers of colourised coins, this one really stood out for us, as the colour detailing and texturing is some of the best we had ever seen.  The way the technique has been used, it actually brings the battle scene to life on the coin.

Metal - 10oz Silver - .999 fine

Diameter - 75.5 mm

Denomination - Ten Dollars

Quality - Proof Finish & Colourised
