2005 Alderney 1 Kilo Silver 'Semi-Proof' £50 - Battle of Trafalgar

Every so often, we come across coins that just stand out from the crowd.  This example is one such coin.

The 2005 Alderney Silver Semi-Proof £50 coin, was produced by the Royal Mint for the channel Island of Alderney, to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the battle of Trafalgar.

This I Kilo coin is minted (unusually for the Royal Mint) in .999 fine Silver, and is 100mm in diameter. The coin is encapsulated, and held in a blue velour lined case and comes with a colourful and informative booklet incorporating a certificate of Authenticity.

The coin's reverse design incorporates elements of this famous battle which includes Admiral Nelson himself. The finish is described as 'Semi Proof', but as you will see from the photo, it is as Proof a finish as they get.
