UK Gold Proof BRITANNIA Coins & Sets
Produced by the British Royal Mint, the UK Gold Proof Britannia coins and sets were introduced in 1987. Since then the coins have been been produced in four sizes - 1/10th oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2oz and 1oz, and issued as single coins, as well as two, three and four coin sets. Since it's introduction, there has been 5 designs used on the reverse of these coins. The coin is produced in 22ct Gold for the United Kingdom and has legal tender status.
Gold Proof Version
The Gold Britannia coin was originally alloyed with Copper, but from 1990 the decision was made to alloy with Silver. This is why the earlier Gold Britannia's have the deep Gold colour, as opposed to the lighter yellow gold colour of the Britannia since 1990.
