GOLD LUNAR SERIES

The Australia Gold LUNAR series of coins were first issued in 1996 by the PERTH MINT in Western Australia. The coins are issued in line with the Chinese Lunar Calendar as the name would suggest. As the Lunar Calendar has 12 different representations, these coins are due to run for the 12 year cycle, and are as follows:

All coins in this series are struck from 99.99% pure gold, in bullion quality, with a highly polished design on a frosted background.
Like the Australian Nugget, the large bullion coins are unlimited in mintage but the coins of 1oz and smaller are strictly limited. The mintages of each design are limited to 30,000 1oz, 60,000 1/4oz, 80,000 1/10oz and 100,000 1/20oz coins.
On occasion, the Perth Mint have also changed the design for use on the Bullion coins, and the Proof coins.
SERIES II
With the popularity of the first Lunar series, the Perth Mint announced in September 2007 that they were to start production of a second series of the Lunar calendar coins. The second series would start with the 2008 - Year of the Mouse design, and would again run for the 12 year cycle. This time the Gold and Silver series would run n parallel.
| Year of Issue | Type |
| 2008 | Year of the MOUSE |
To differentiate the second series from the first, the Perth Mint not only created new designs, but changed to a larger diameter coin, which in our opinion gives greater scope for more intricate designs. Therefore we believe that the second series will bring to the world of Numismatics a set of really superb designs.
